poor scientists vs rich business executives

WHY SCIENTISTS WILL NEVER MAKE AS MUCH MONEY AS BUSINESS EXECUTIVES

A rigorous mathematical proof.
Postulate 1: Knowledge is Power
Postulate 2: Time is Money

a. Work/Time=Power

Since Knowledge=Power, and Time=Money,
b. Work/Money=Knowledge

Solving for money,
Work/Knowledge=Money

So, as Knowledge approaches zero, Money approaches infinity,
regardless of the amount of Work done.

Conclusion: The less you know, the more you make.
Perhaps this give me one more reason to not continue PhD for the time being~

Q & A with prospective junior

Hello~ I am Chui Theng, a friend of Jing Jie.I am from malaysia  too..i am his junior.
hello :D

I got the asean scholarship to futher study in Ntu.I got the course biological science.
congrats yeah!

So, Jing Jie recommend me you to ask u sth.
no prob...

I wanna ask whether this course is good o nt in ur opinion?
course offered is alright, better than NUS and m'sian uni. but really depends on wat u wanna do after graduation.

    Is it very hard?
certainly better quality comes with heavier workload, but overall it's still manageable.

    How r the lecturer?
almost all are helpful. up to own effort to ask questions as they wont go all the way to help like secondary school teachers. students must be more proactive.

How about the working opportunity? acording to the letter they sent me, they mentioned that the working opportunity is good lar...But i am not sure.
haha...sure they wil say that cos they need to attract students mah.
if wanna do research i.e. being a scientist, this course will be good. else if u wanna work right after graduation, there will be quite limited choices as our degree is a general science degree but we will still be able to go into more general sector e.g. banking, sales, teaching, project officer in labs with salary of a normal graduate.

Hows the course? IS it interesting ?
the course is well structured and it's much better now cos u wil b the 6th batch, things are more messy for the 1st 2 batches of students.
i feel that its quite interesting cos i dont like engineering. really depend on ur interest.

    a Lot of lab work?
i dont think its much cos most students wil rush to be attached to labs during the holz but again, it's up to own effort and interest.

IS it very stressful taking this course?
manageable stress la but all courses are on equal stress level in s'pore.

Is it difficult to achieve 3.5 mark every sem?
shouldnt be a problem for m'sian scholars. dont worry :)

act i apply pharmacy for the local uni, however, i got this, i think this a also a good opportunity too...but not very understand about this course..so confused!!
i understand. there's a senior of the exact case as u but she chose here. all boil down to wat u want to do n ur interest. im not sure but think pharmacy is considered as professional course while bio sciences is a general degree course. so if u take up pharmacy, perhaps u can work right after grad. but then, try to ask urself, izit all about money? wat would b ur aim in life? for some, researching and discovering things are their passion...wat about yours?

one more, NTU bio sciences involved more about cellular work. so just to prepare u if u r coming to join our SBS family. perhaps u can also ask Zhao Qin whom i believe could b ur senior. good to always have a few different views but just dont let them confuse u. i know its tough for u but do make the right decision and carry on with it...

Hope u can give me some opinion..thanks a lot.
my pleasure ^^

FYP...that scary?!?

Initially, the thought of FYP got me excited firstly was because I got my 1st preference i.e. in Prof. Li's lab.
Second, was because the thought of it could somehow help me to tide over the exam period (it still hasn't end...2 more papers - on coming Wed & Fri).

Yeah, sort of can't wait for it until i read about it in a SBS senior's blog

Half of her past four months' entries was dedicated to her dearest FYP; on her ups and downs (mostly downs though) doing her FYP in Prof. Sze C C's lab. Kind of makes me wonder if all that happen to all students in all labs???

Quoted from her blog:
"work continuously for at least 12-14 hours per day for 30 days"
"lately when I walk back to my room from campus, I feel kinda floaty"

Now, that really gave me an insight into FYP life. It does not excite me that much anymore.
Simply hope that i can still keep my feet on the ground then~

Thank the Feminists!

If you are a woman voter, thank a feminist.

If your doctor is a woman, thank a feminist.

If you open the help-wanted section of any US paper and see job listings classified by occupation rather than “help wanted – male” and “help wanted – female,” thank a feminist.

If your depression is taken seriously rather than considered a by-product of having a uterus, thank a feminist.

If you can have birth control prescribed to you without first obtaining your husband’s written permission, thank a feminist.

If you’re allowed to teach school regardless of your marital status, and you’re a woman, thank a feminist.

If you are told you can become something other than a nurse, a grade-school teacher, a housewife and mother, or a nun, thank a feminist.

If you expect to be considered for admission to university programmes based on your qualifications rather than your gender, thank a feminist.

If you expect your qualifications for admission to educational programmes to be considered equally, rather than after every male application has been admitted, thank a feminist.

If you’ve heard of the crime of domestic violence, and know that it’s illegal, thank a feminist.

If you can drive, thank a feminist.

If you expect to be paid the same wage as a man doing the same job you are, with the same seniority and the same qualifications, thank a feminist.

If you are considered a person in your own right rather than the chattel of a man, thank a feminist.

If you’re legally permitted to own property in your own name, thank a feminist.

If you don’t expect to be fired because a man “needs your job to feed his family,” thank a feminist.

If the phrase “non-traditional occupation” seems a little old-fashioned or, better yet, you don’t understand it at all, thank a feminist.

If you hear terms like “firefighter,” “police officer,” or “postal worker” in everyday life, thank a feminist.

If the phrase “she’s a woman lawyer” seems odd, thank a feminist.

If you aren’t expected to leave the room at a party when the conversation turns to current events and politics, thank a feminist.

If you’re a grown woman and don’t expect to be called “girl” when you are 50, thank a feminist.

Feminists brought about all of these things. Before the feminists got involved, the reverse was true in each and every case.
